SAT/ACT Preparation with a Personalized Approach
At Capitol Teachers, we understand that every student’s path to SAT/ACT success is unique. At Capitol Teachers, our SAT/ACT preparation program is flexible and personalized, led by experienced educators who focus on strengthening both content knowledge and test-taking strategies—so students feel confident and prepared on test day.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
We begin with a phone consultation with your family to ensure the best possible start. During this conversation, we will:
Identify the Ideal Testing Timeline
We help you determine when your child should take the SAT or ACT based on their academic schedule, readiness, and comfort level with the test content. Timing is everything, and we want your student to feel confident and prepared.
Match Your Child with the Right Tutor
Using your child’s baseline scores (if available), personality, and learning preferences, we carefully match them with the most compatible tutor. We work exclusively with certified, experienced teachers who bring both subject-matter expertise and a gift for building meaningful connections. A strong student-tutor relationship is central to our approach.
Step 2: Identify the Plan That Works Best for Your Child
Our SAT/ACT prep program is designed with flexibility and effectiveness in mind:
In-Person or Remote Options
Sessions can take place in the comfort of your home, a public setting like a library, or online—whichever environment best supports your child’s focus and schedule. Our online educators are highly skilled in leveraging teaching technologies such as the College Board’s Bluebook platform, interactive whiteboards, and skill-building tools. They are also adept at “reading” student understanding in real time to adjust instruction as needed. Since the SAT and ACT are administered digitally, many students find online sessions especially beneficial for building familiarity and confidence with the test format.
Personalized Learning Plan
Before the first session, we create a customized learning plan based on your child’s prior scores. If no scores are available, we administer a full-length, proctored online SAT or ACT to establish a baseline.
Step 3: Begin a Tailored Program
We work closely with your family to customize the schedule, pacing, and duration based on your child’s goals, availability, and readiness.
Timeline
While every student’s path is unique, many families opt for an 8-week preparation timeline, with sessions designed to build skills, master testing strategies, and boost confidence.
If your child plans to take the test a second time, we often recommend a tailored 4-week extension to reinforce strategies and further strengthen performance.
Structure
A typical structure includes 2 hours of instruction per week—one hour with an English Language Arts (ELA) teacher and one hour with a math teacher, each an expert in their field.
Daily Practice
In addition to weekly instruction, students receive a fully customized homework plan designed to reinforce what they are learning. Homework typically requires one to two hours per week during the school year, and 30–60 minutes per day during the summer months.
Progress Monitoring
Tutors receive real-time data from homework assignments and completed tests, allowing them to tailor instruction to meet the student’s evolving needs.
